Comments on: Going over the tracks on the Sherwood Park Fwy., I catch a glimpse of the 7227 sitting down below. They are asking for permission to go through the work area set up for replacing the East Edmonton diamond. In the distance down the tracks you can see the CN Strathcona sign and siding. The track curving off to the right from the mainline (you can see the red target on the switch) is the Strathcona spur. Although still of some length (over 6km’s now compared to over 9km’s in the past) it serves only a few customers. That is the WC 3027 tucked in behind.

I remember that well. The night before, we had a spectacular storm come through near sunset. It was beautiful to watch from our balcony of our apartment on Jasper on he east end. The next morning, we drove to Jasper, where it was cool and rainy.
BTW, I have a photo from 1998 of the area that I just posted (assuming that I did not do so a long time ago)

Speaking of unrecognizable. A little more history. On “Black Friday” in 1987, this piece of the railway is where the tornado passed. There is a garbage bin and garbage pickup truck business located exactly left in this photo that was really wiped out (beside many others) but rebuilt and still busy today. I believe just north of here (by the diamond), a few rail cars were tipped and blown over by the wind. One tornado in this lifetime is enough for me.

Yes, Colin did catch these units at Clover Bar. As far as I know, they only pretty recently showed up in our area. It has been awhile seeing a GP9. GP40′s were dominating the yard power roster for a time last Fall. With the 3027 behind and the 7227 leading I was hoping to get away with a little duplication.

This is the second last train to go through the work area before they removed the old diamond. The last train was 115, it had those 100 year container cars on the headend bound for the Calgary Stampede. I thought you guys might been a little hard on this celebration train. Well, after seeing it, I am not impressed either. 3 engines on the front and no 100 year decal on any of them. The containers are unusual and colourful but it ends there. Oh Boy! we will get this in 2 weeks time for Klondike Days, Yay.
