Comments on: GP40-2L (W) trio CN 9540, 9418 and 9474 are seen from Waterdown Road bridge westbound on a very pleasant morning. This location is of interest because off on the North (left) side is the site of the present day Aldershot GO station and parking lot. It was all so different back in 1977, and one would be hard pressed to find any connection with today’s busy scene.

John, one could just park at the side of the road back then. There wasn’t much doing. I thought about stopping there a couple of weeks ago, but decided I would rather post old photos to RP than to get run over. )

Very interesting to see how it was then. I suppose the (north) east side of this bridge has never had a proper sidewalk, though traffic probably used to be less. The billboard that was put up beside the bridge several years ago and tree growth also detract from this spot now.

I remember in the early 80′s and for a long time after when the GP40-2W’s were the pride of the fleet. Power braking was the norm for train handling as none of these units had dynamic brakes. Excellent pic.
