Comments on: GP9 to the rescue! When an eastbound VIA passenger train lead by LRC 6911 ran out of fuel, CN sent out a locomotive to rescue the consist. Ron, I think there was some truck swapping that happened to those 4100′s in the late 60′s-early 70′s. They originally had Flexicoils and were assigned out west, but a bunch were sent east, and then had trucks changed out over time to standard Blomberg B’s. Maybe not all of them got the swap over time, photos vary. They probably rode better in passenger service than those Flexicoils.

Now that I’m paying attention, I often notice Flexicoil trucked CN GP-9s in older photos, including this one.
