Comments on: GTW 5849 in the midst of farms at harvest time, this could be rural Michigan on a GTW Branchline but it’s actually South Western Ontario, and this was the first time a GT painted locomotive ended up down this way in decades if not ever according to my friends who were around in the 90′s – back then these locomotives did not migrate to locals, ever, or so I’m told. GTW units on Locals around here has been a fairly recent phenomenon.

One of my favourite things to do is driving around and checking out the farms of Norfolk County. Mid-July in particular - when the rye and wheat harvest is getting underway (watching combines and the bailing of straw is easily as entertaining for me as any train haha), and other crops are really starting to take off around then too.

Corn'll deplete the soil. Gotta rotate! The wheat looks quite nice here, much better than corn would have. Fortunate it was still on - most is harvested by late July.

Thank you Gents. That's what I thought. It's just west of Guelph and it really depends what that farmer grows.. most of the time he chooses corn...
