Comments on: Here is a view looking roughly southward at the old Markham Village station. It is only in it’s 4th month as a stop for the GO extension thru here. (Stouffville GO line) This station was built in 1871 for the Toronto & Nipissing Rwy. Later taken over by GTR and then CNR.Passenger service dried up in the early 1970s. The station was saved from demolition when a millennium project between the City of Markham and the Markham Village Conservatory to purchase the old station and restore it came into being. The station is used for commercial purposes, as GO uses only the platform, not the station itself. It is a Heritage Building. I chose this image, rather than just the station itself, for Railpictures on account all the old structures other than the station are gone, replaced by housing projects and parking for around 250 cars. This scene is so rural in appearance compared to the present day.

This looked like this as recently as ‘83?
Markham was already sprawled in many areas then
You caught a moment in time with this shot.
Very nice.
