Comments on: Here is an odd duck. According to whom I am told is a reliable source, this relic was initially built way back in 1906 by National Steel Car for Ontario Hydro as a 600v locomotive. It was sold to Stelco in 1926. Was rebuilt by them into a gas/electric. In 1953 the superstructure was stripped down and a CAT prime mover was installed, and control stand now on open deck. The ROD mill had two of these, 6335 and 6336. This unit pictured, 6335, was scrapped in 1999. One would think this could be the oldest locomotive featured on RP.ca thus far ??? Perhaps someone (other than the informant) who worked/retired from Stelco could shed more light on this rather unusual beast.

Recycling before recycling became the fad. Back then I think it was called "making do".

Last I heard, "sister" (if you can call it that, it looks a little different) 6336 was sold to and is owned by Railcare now, in operating condition.
