Comments on: Here’s a rather obscure operation as it was winding down by the time I took this photo. This I am thinking is a Canada Furnace GE 50 tonner, working a yard that used to be on the East side of the Canal by the Clarence St bridge. The area now is used for stockpiling raw materials and also dismantling of scrap lake boats. The lack of ID on the switcher is somewhat disappointing. The engine may have been formerly Canadian Steel Ltd and not restenciled. In the background is the intersection of Welland and Durham Streets. Info on this operation and on its roster would be greatly appreciated.

Seems you should have kept this image in the vault !
I need to do more research but at present the listings on Colin Churcher’s Industrial website only have two GE’s, #4 and #5.
4 is shown as a 50T which I tend to agree, your number 3 Arnold appears to be.
Perhaps its just a case of having the wrong road number.

Most interesting!! Google “Old Time Trains Port Colborne”, Industrial locomotives and you will find a photo of CDA Furnace Div #4. I don’t know how many they had. If possible, see if there is any ID in your loco and let us know what you can find!

Arnold, did they have more then one of these at Canada furnace? We have a 45 tonner at work that apparently came from there.
