Comments on: Here’s a sunny afternoon view of CP’s Toronto Yard (a.k.a. Agincourt Yard) on July 2nd 1978, as viewed looking east from the General Yard Office. Visible are the Car Shops and repair yards, Diesel Shop and servicing areas (and its water tower), and the West Receiving and East Recieving yards to the right. Markham Road is visible in the distance, and the two mainline tracks of the Belleville Sub pass under it on the far right side of the underpass. On the left is the Retarder tower, and part of the sprawling Classification Yard tracks. Scarborough’s suburban housing sprawl is present in the distance, swallowing up land that was once rural farmland and fields that existed all around the yard when it was originally built “out in the boonies” in the early 60′s. The Car Shop yard is dominated by “home road” CP cars, the most visible are tonnes classic 40′ boxcars in stepped lettering (1950′s), script lettering (1960′s) and action red (1970′s).
