Comments on: Here’s some 1970′s Retro Toronto goodness: the interior of TTC Hawker Siddeley Canada H4 5651, on a busy eastbound Bloor-Danforth train approaching Yonge Subway Station.Standard fare on your average H4 always included the comfy orange and grey bench seats, yellow doorways with cream doors, and the ol’ simulated wood grain paneling. Shot portrait-style to show off the large distinct rooftop ventilator fans, at the time the last subway cars in service in Toronto with them (also found in old department stores like K-Mart). All the H1-H4 cars came with those fans, as well as the M1′s, but their use was discontinued starting with the air-conditioned H5′s. The early H’s were also “camshaft control”, so no buzzing like the later “chopper control” cars, just a whir on starting and stopping, and no air conditioning either.
