Comments on: Hitchin’ a ride. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, CN ordered a crew to take an engine west to Tofield and then head back east, picking up junk, bad orders and other cars on their way. Instead of heading light and LHF for 100+ miles, they decided to hitch a ride on Q199, which also had a bunch of empty centerbeam cars on the tailend.

Also, there is an actual "railfan" parking area there. The club I used to belong to actually had the occasional BBQ there. Another tragedy back in the 70's, I believe, is when the engineer on the EB "Super" stopped his train on the bridge and he turned around, opened the door and jumped to his death.

I worked for Sperry and we tested the Wainwright Sub. We crossed at <5mph. Was never too keen of getting out to mark a defect on the rail on this baby! We were "kicked off " a few times one trip for trains. As a note, down below on the west side of the valley is a cairn which is dedicated to a worker who lost his life during construction. You can see it from the bridge if youre on it. Not sure if you can from the photo vantage point.

Thanks :-) The Wainwright subdivision gets between 15 and 30 trains a day, I'd say.
