Comments on: I can not remember the exact date but I clearly remember that a group of us from Victoria were in Ladysmith working to free the old CP spreader from the existing blackberry bushes and get it ready to be moved south to Victoria for storage. Everything went well at the time but shortly afterwords local politics reared it’s ugly head and the spreader stayed in Ladysmith to await it’s fate. The attached photograph shows one of Vancouver Island’s two VIA dayliners near the north end of the Ladysmith’s E&N station. I can not be sure of the VIA car’s number but it would have been 6135 or 6148. The station is still there as are the MB buildings but a lot has changed. I would have loved to back in time to see the local Ladysmith operations of the E&N and the MB logging RY’s in action. The smell of steam as a Locomotive passes by. What more can you ask for.

Marcus: It was the lack of track maintenance and the lack of any political will among other things that killed the VIA rail train on Vancouver Island. I don't see the VIA rail service returning as Vancouver Island needs "more bicycle" lanes".

Nice photo! I photographed one the Budd cars there back in 2000. Sad they no longer run as the train was always pretty full.
