Comments on: I guess you call this ‘mundane times’ on the railroad for back in 1980. But what does make this shot of interest is the fact that most viewers on this list under age 30 would have no idea where this was shot. The historical value of photography!! I am standing where the 403 to Waterdown Rd exit is now. In front of me I believe is the old Waterdown Rd level crossing. The Building is remembered (demo 2009) as ‘Aldershot Cold Storage’ but for an undetermined amount of time it was home to a branch of Kinkelder Mist Sprayers. I cannot find any info on that company locating here. They were involved in agricultural sprays which are used on probably mostly fruit trees. The CN main line is still there, but the foreground up to where I am standing is now occupied by the two track lead to Aldershot Yard. Throw in the fact this is a version of the TH&B “Starlite’ with CP 5516 and 5552 heading east, and you have what is now an interesting scene. This train always featured ‘extra’ flags, and was known for its unconventional assortment of freight.

Kinkelder was the old Niagara Brand sprayers.They used to store new ones on the old freight building at Burlington

Thats right, Todd. It was removed well before I went looking for it in 1974. Just out of sight was the team track that went in behind the station. There was a couple of industries there as well………I do remember an Esso gas storage place.

And, if that mound in front of you is the old Waterdown Rd. level crossing, that means just out of picture to the right is where the old CN station stood, across from the cold storage. Station was removed around 1970, I presume….?

That foreground track was a stub, as it dead-ended only about 20-30 ft to the left of this scene. It was connected to the main at the west end, out of sight on the right, and did a bit of a loop rather than being straight. I am under the assumption that it led into the old Waterdown station although I am not exactly sure where that building was. There was an Esso storage last I recall, and the last time I saw anything on this track was in early 1974 when it was chock full of boarding cars.
