Comments on: I have a soft spot for these engines – amongst the last EMD completed engines at London, and the first EMD built at Muncie – The four at present which CN purchased are from the latter group. Those of us who were at the Open House in ’11 remember seeing many of these in various stages of construction.. I for one hope EMD pulls through and gets their Tier 4 game on – but what do you think will happen? Feel free to comment below. I also think, with the advent of PTC it won’t be too long we lament the loss of ‘classic’ cantlever signals like this one It may date to ’64 but it sure has a nice look to it :)

Amer it’s a bit of A and a bit of B. The terminal certainly didn’t help but the plan is to replace all the signals on the Halton, then move to other lines.

This is all because of Enhanced Train Control – Canada’s version of PTC

The current deadline for ETC is 2030 and railways will be required to show some progress just like they did 10 years ago in the USA. The difference now is CN knows how to implement PTC quicky and I am told they are pushing to keep it the same as the USA – PTC not ETC.

Either way, get your shots, most of the Halton is already completed now and the rest will fall in due time, possibly by 2030.

Crazy how it took 11 whole years for the cantilever to fall after this post. Looks like the building of the Milton intermodal terminal was the reason for cut overs (which will happen any day now I assume since the signal replacements have been up for months) rather than PTC (correct me if i’m wrong). Well, it was just in time for me to grab ‘em before they are gone

Well there is no re-signalling on the halton as of 2016, so the signal still has some years to stand, and I did not know those old CN searchlights date back to 1964!

I didn’t even know they were still in that colouring…Hopefully I can see one because we all know CN won’t keep the blue.
