Comments on: I have to admit I do miss those colourful Sperry cars that used to roam the rail system. I don’t know how long it has been since the cars were replaced by rather unappealing trucks, but it has got to be 25 years. What a difference. With the cars there was room to roam around; with the truck you are pretty much stuck in the seat. Usually when I see one of the Sperry Rail Service trucks these days it is parked alongside the line at a crossing waiting for rail traffic to clear. Must make for a long day for those fellers.
This image was taken in early March of 1978 showing the SRS car #139 crossing over Fourth St Louth in West St. Catharines.

Interesting.. at some point the bridge was painted CN green and now it's rusted right over. Plus no handrails.

I do think there are some Sperry railcars still around but the trucks are probably a cheaper option. The railcars can test more track in a day as they can run full speed where a truck cannnot

This video is recent so they are still around:

I think I remember seeing one come down the CP MacTier Sub in 2007 or 2008 (from the GO train), so they were still kicking around then. Those hi-rail replacements just aren't the same.
