Comments on: I know we have been blessed with many Caledonia station scenes on Railpictures; but there is always room for another. This shot is taken looking away from Argyle St, showing the old station on the left as it looked before it was rescued from demolition and restored over the 1996-1997 period. I understand it now houses the local museum and the Chamber of Commerce. I thought the building on the right used to be an old feed building, but not sure and asking for information. I do know a new Food Basics occupies some of that land now and most all the track in the foreground is gone save for one stub.

I had figured passenger service ended a long time prior to this picture. By this date the Dunnville was also abandoned toward Fort Erie too.

The only passenger runs on the Dunnville Sub during the 1950s (minus the mixed form Hamilton crossing to the Hagersville) were trains M218: Stratford - Fort Erie, M219: Fort Erie - Stratford. Per a CN public timetable effective October 26, 1958, the mixed had been split in two with the following arrangement:

M217: Fort Erie - Brantford, M219: Brantford - Stratford
M218: Stratford - Brantford, M220: Brantford - Fort Erie

I cannot recall the reason behind the arrangement. I believe it had something to do with the mixed meeting another train at Paris to swap freight. It is covered in one of Ian Wilson's books. The trains are still listed in the October 24, 1959 table, but not the one on April 24, 1960.

Steve, the wooden platform crossing to the Dunville Sub. you reference is actually the motor car set-off for the track guys. It extends from the tool house portion of the station to both the Hagersville and Dunville Sub. tracks allowing for track motor car travel on either.

Classic shot Arnold. Yes, that's the old mill. They did use it for seeds....and it burned to the ground during the stations restoration between 1996-97. I was lucky enough to have a hand in said restoration, in re-painting the stations nameboard, as well as creating a second one.

Mr. Host....passenger service had nearly been gone for 24 years at the time of Arnold's photo. Last passenger train was October 1957, I believe. Dunnville Sub. came out around 1986. However a stub of ties still remain today, if you walk the trail beside it.

By the time our family moved here in 1988...station was still used by maintenance crews, and was closed sometime after. Last few freights woild still use the Rymal Sub...as I always remember seeing the steel train usually led by those F units I loved so much.

The station...it was definitely eye catching, as I can remember sitting on the loading platform by the old mill trying to draw it.

Stephen - Passenger service ended October 26th, 1957. The planks between the rails are motorcar take-offs, there were two motorcar stalls in the west end of the station. This previous photo by Mr. Mooney gives a better view.

Information on the 1925 Caledonia Fire Insurance map shows the building was a grain warehouse belonging to The Caledonia Milling Company.

Great image! I was there this morning and it’s sad to see so much rusty and unused track. At least the local still services the lumber facility.
