Comments on: I never much cared for locomotives in solid black paint. (Norfolk Southern comes to mind) However, OCRR 1824 and 1865 look splendid. No wonder; they are freshly painted. The fledgling Ottawa Central is less than 6 months old when this photo was taken, and started with a fleet of RS18u diesels cast from the Canadian Pacific. From red to black, same numbers.
It seemed we hardly got to know the Ottawa Central before it was reabsorbed back into the CN after a short lived independence, so to speak, from 1998 to 2008. It had been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Quebec Railway Corporation.

The 1859 and the units here all came from that old CP stock. I did wonder how this fledgling OCRR managed to have so much money invested into all the units being freshly painted. I guess they wanted to show the world they meant business......unlike the paint jobs we saw on the GEXR over the years.

The Trillium 1859 looks similar with the red brake wheel and CP numbering. Is it an ex-QC unit? Very nice how they kept the same CP font. It's a wonder why they didn't stick with the red.
