Comments on: I rather regret not walking the line here and recording all the numbers of stored locomotives in Welland yard on this visit. Railfans and other trespassers had been on alert that the CP police were no longer tolerating unauthorized persons wandering the property, due to some unpleasant events of recent; so I was quick in and out.
Saw all this power and of course had to photograph. Drove in, snap, snap; drove out.
It is possible this long line of units (17??) were stored at Welland contemplating disposal, but without actual unit numbers, I am not sure. I know the first one, CP 5543, was sold in 2000. CP at this time was well on the way to gutting their tired fleet of early SD40s and the Dash 2s.

Thanks for posting this, Arnold! I just looked at my notes from a few days later, 06/04, when I made a pre-dawn visit on the way to Buffalo... maybe it was due to the time in the wee-hours, but I was brazen enough to drive the line and note all the power. I agree this looks like 17 units - there were 18 when I visited: CP 5543, 5546, 5529, STLH 5532, CP 5547, 5564, 5518, 5521, 5506, 5511, 5550, 5512, 5558, 5527, 5510, 5544, 5519, 5552.

Thanks. There were stored locos at Welland from time to time. As you know, NOT an easy place to "sneak" into, if you wanted photos.

For myself, of all the red CP schemes, the one with the big red and white stripes at the ends is the best.

Great shot. I remember making one trip that way around the same time but only took a shot from a distance for the same reason.
