Comments on: I ventured out to see what I could find in Hamilton late this afternoon, when I heard the RTC get a hold of a foreman to tell him a train was coming from Burlington West through his limits and would be tying down in the yard in Hamilton. That’s not something you hear around here very often, so I went over to Snake to see what it was as it had certainly piqued my interest. As the headlights came into appearance, so too soon did the sight of a unit train of some sort. I figured maybe ballast, but soon enough, I saw it was all coils and it came in at more than 700 axles over the detector at 33. Never before had I seen anything quite like that around here. RTC thought they were going to Hamilton and tying down in Stuart, and the crew and car control thought they were working. They stopped on Track 2 at Snake to sort this out, and eventually it was decided they’d make a setoff at Aldershot. They made the cut, leaving a significant portion of their train on Track 2, pulled ahead and crossed over onto Track 3, then shoved back across Tracks 2 and 1 and into the yard for a setoff before proceeding to Hamilton as pictured. The rest of the train was to be set off in Stuart and Parkdale.

Damn.. I had to run to Simcoe this afternoon and thought about checking things out there but decided against it last minute. Regret that choice now. What a sight that would've been too

CN 581 dropped 86 coil cars at Garnet Yard overnite. Siding E22 was chock full end to end morning of June 30th with 68 coil cars. RLHH 591 delivered all 86 to Stelco Nanticoke mid afternoon. Interesting movement!

Sorry, Tim. I just got to thinking - do you mean Southern as in SOR (which is how I originally interpreted that) or Southern as in CN Southern Yard? If the latter - I've never seen cars stored in Southern Yard. There really isn't the room for it frankly with the pipe cars to/from Welded Tube, anything to/from Martech, CP interchange traffic, and sometimes Trillium cars sitting in there too. They did in recent months reactivate the relatively close Thorold Yard however and have been using it for storage, and I have seen coils in there.

Indeed Joe, I happened to see 435 yesterday moving through the Hamilton West area and it appeared to have picked up the coils that X318 had set off in Aldershot the day prior.

Lennon. Mile 5.9 Caramat Sub. Pretty useless at 6230' and only 2.8 miles from double track at Jackfish. Only good for stabbing VIA No 2.

I'm told that 435 set off a large amount of coils at Paris yesterday for Nanticoke. I'm liking how busy STELCO has become again

@James. No problem. A lot of these cars were showing for Southern as well as Garnet too.

@Mercer... Lennon is a small useless siding a couple stations west of Hornepayne. I imagine they just stuffed as many storage cars into the siding as they could and that was that.
