Comments on: I was relatively time constrained to catch Via 98 the night before, and did not end up getting there in time. Although, seeing Amtrak 184 made it all that much worse. Nonetheless, I reminded myself it was coming back on 97. Looking more like a scene from 2003 (with the exception of the platform), 97 gets ready to take off for Niagara Falls and eventually New York City as Amtrak 64. The only heritage unit to match a previously existing paint scheme on a P42DC (phase IV), I took greater appreciation in it than I did of 145 and 822 when they came through. Personally, I think all Amtrak P42′s should have it for intercity service, as it matches the passenger cars well and looks sleek. I have seen every Amtrak heritage unit except this one (thanks to a visit to California). While 145, 156 and 822 have all come down on the Maple Leaf, from my awareness, 66 and 184 had yet to. This leaves 66 as the only heritage unit that supposedly has not had a turn on the Leaf. While Amtrak’s 40th anniversary was 5 years, it’s quite clear that 184 has not had much pride taken in it. A mismatched coloured nose panel, peeling paint, and a very foul sounding horn indicate this unit has seen better days. With a little luck, 184 will come back a few more times as the Albany division usually keeps units for a few weeks before transferring them out.

Yes it was. I was at Mac Yrd when they came on duty. The CN engine service officer was there helping the crew out. You will probably see more DP trains in the area, especially on weekends I am told

Hey snake.I was not on 421 as it went through Hamilton this morning. I was supposed to take in to Hamilton owing to the late arrival of 422′s crew at Mac Yrd yesterday evening. I did get called to start the train out of Mac Yrd, but the shop hads power issues with the GE’s and had to substitute DC power instead. Long story short. The Pt Rob crew ended up having to relieve us at Mac Yrd after I started to assemble the train. Oh the joys of railroading!

Nice shot Daniel. Love the Amtrak Heritage units. There might be lots of action out there today. I am just headed out to take a DPU 421 from Mac Yrd and will trade off with the Pt. Rob crew at Hamilton. I was also on 523 from Mac Yrd to Aldershot the last two days. They also ran a 523 from Pt Rob to Aldershot yesterday and they plan a 524 from Pt. Rob and a 523 from Mac Yrd today. Get out there
