Comments on: If you opened a dictionary and looked up “Shortline Railroading”, this photo would sum it up nicely: the Orangeville-Brampton Railway’s twice weekly run to Streetsville to interchange traffic with CP (and to work the few industries enroute) has just left the suburban chaos of Brampton and it making its way north through the Caledon countryside. Traffic today consists of just a single covered hopper, and with interchange work done it’s a straight shot all the way back to Orangeville. Cando Contracting (CCGX) 1000, an old 1957 GMD GP9 (ex-QNS&L 157) that was the lone assigned power for the OBRY, is running long-hood-forward and laying on a little bit extra horn for the three photographers giving chase as it cruises past the Brampton-Caledon Airport and over McLaughlin Road, near the hamlet of Victoria. There’s actually four RP.ca photographers here: Dave Young and Mike Da Costa shooting at the crossing, me behind the camera, and Steve Bradley in the cab as conductor on this run. Engineer Wayne was giving 1000′s half-clogged Leslie Supertyphon S3J horn a good workout at each crossing on the trip north, and both were nice enough to invite us to ride around in the cab in Orangeville before the unit was put away for the day. A fun time was had by all, with a good amount of photos and memories to look back through.
