Comments on: I’m posting this shot to show a more contemporary view from the Hwy 35 bridge at Pontypool. Almost 27 years after S Danko’s view of VIA 189 flying through town, CP 3105, 3045, 8200, and 3042 plod through at 10mph with T07′s train. The siding, obscured by snow, remains, though it is now stub ended with the wheelstops located at the bush below the crossbuck. The elevator still stands, and indeed is seeing a slow restoration by locals, though the office section seen in the earlier shot is now but a crumbling foundation. The trees have grown much in the intervening years. And the railroad runs a few round trips to Toronto per week, under the guise of the Kawartha Lakes Railway internal shortline, at a relaxed pace, down from six per week in the eighties. 0910hrs.

I looked up the freight traffic on the Havelock circia the 1940's-1950's (Source: Lines of Country, Boston Mills Press) and the Havelock had very little freight on it even then despite the majority running on the (now called) Belleville sub. So it would appear that not much through freight ran this line even 10 to 20 years before abandonment in 1971 near Smiths Falls.

James, there has been a lot of inconsistency over the past 12 months or more, but generally:

T07 Tues/Thurs/Sat Havelock 0600hrs.
T08 Tues/Thurs Toronto 1300hrs, dependent on T07's arrival.
T08 Sun Toronto 0800hrs.

Nice image, Mike. I was going to write and ask if that elevator was still there, so now that question is answered.
