Comments on: In 1978 there were still a few watchman’s towers around. This one holds command over the Egerton St crossing by the old CN facilities and turntable at Rectory St in London East.
CN 4508 is seen moving westward on a rather dull morning……..the GP was destined to became CN 4024 in a rebuild program and was eventually retired in 2006.

Regarding Driver8666's comment, I knew some guys on the CPR that somehow were always immaculate, one guy with starched & pressed white hats & some with light coloured shirts like the guy in the photo. Those guys never seemed to get dirty. I seemed to be from the other school..as a workmate of mine put it "I break out in grease spots as soon as I take the call for work"

Great photo. The 4508 is on Walkers Lead which will take it toward Walton Jct. (Talbot Sub.) and Charlie Yard west of Colborne St. The watchman's tower and ABS Signals will all be gone soon with the installation of the CTC and the newest crossing control equipment through London.

I'm informed this is the Rectory St tower. The Egerton tower is apparently the next one in the distance.
