Comments on: In the last months of the Mount Pleasant streetcar route (more on that in this photo), TTC “A-8″ class PCC 4545 heads back south along Mount Pleasant Road bound for St. Clair subway station, passing small local shops and the AMC Mount Pleasant Motors car dealership at Manor Road. The 4500′s were regulars on the St. Clair and Mount Pleasant routes, being based out of the old St. Clair/Wychwood Carhouse. American Motors Corporation (AMC) was 4th place behind the big three (GM, Chrysler & Ford) and for a while was known for their mid-smaller sized economy cars (Gremlin, Pacer, Matador, Hornet) and Jeep brand until eventually being swallowed up by Chrysler in 1987. Their large Brampton Assembly plant in Peel Village (served by rail via CN) produced and distributed some of the product sold at local dealerships like this one. Robert D.
