Comments on: In this photograph E&N (CP) 3004 is almost completely turned and just about ready to leave the turntable and couple to the waiting train cars for it’s trip back to Nanaimo. Victoria was having a drought at the time and the sun was down low so there was quite a reflection off the locomotive. CP 3004 seemed to have spent the majority of it’s life in western Canada. I first saw it in Aug. 1971 at Brandon Man. and in 1987 at Penticton BC and many times after that on Vancouver Island. In the background you see the 1913 Victoria CP 10 stall roundhouse & backshop. The roundhouse was one of the first ones in Canada to be divided by fire walls and all of the fire doors were still in place at the date of the photograph. I did quite a bit of research on the Victoria roundhouse complex and the Duncan BC engine house in the 1990′s which led me to make a set of N scale drawings for all the buildings. Again just behind the the locomotive you can see a VIA rail dayliner sitting in stall #1 while watching the action on the turntable. The VIA rail cars were (at the time) were maintained in the backshop area of the roundhouse. Stall #1 was mainly used as a drive through to access the backshop area. I really enjoyed exploring the Victoria CP buildings & learned a lot on how the CPR built buildings during that time period. I took a lot of pictures of the Victoria CP buildings but they are detail pictures.
