During the 70's I came across a number of Engineers who, although it had been more than 20 years since the takeover of diesels, were still not happy operating diesel-electric. They came to work in their striped coveralls looking ready to ride steam. And when you stand next to those big road steamers, it is easy to get a sense of why. No computers, phones etc. etc., just you and the machine, the pride had to be fantastic.

Great photo! I wish that these moments were made more publicly known....so that photographers alike could capture such a momentous achievement. I was lucky enough to get my own....being just 'out and about' one night without knowing at all.
