Comments on: It is not easy sometimes, looking for old stations. I realize they have limited appeal on this group for the most part; but this one deserves to be seen. For it is a survivor. Here we are in 2017 and the poor old relic still exists. Still on it’s feet. But barely. There has not been a train thru here in at least 27 years and probably the last passenger was 20 years before that. So somehow it has managed to evade vandals and all the rest of it. Pity though, it has no future. The foreground is now the Confederation Trail, a fitting modern day replacement of almost all 278 km of main line track there once was on this island. Hopefully there are some PEI lurkers on this site that will enjoy this image.:o)

Thanks, Matt. It is a wonderful world out there on the Island. Too bad the trains are gone, but when you think of it….all those stations, all that rail, supported by only 140,000 people !!

I’m an Islander(although living in NB now), and love all your PEI shots. I was only 7 years old in 1989, so my memory of the railway is pretty well non existent. Thanks for uploading them.

West Devon station apparently M.F. Schurman & Company in 1908 and was moved back from the tracks @ 1971.

Great find Arnold..too bad about it’s sad shape. However, Ontario doesn’t have a great track record either Happy to see the ‘simple-but-pleasant-structure’ still surviving after all these years.

Thanks. I made a mistake in the caption, and rather than pull the photo I’ll just correct it here. That is not the Confederation Trail in the foreground, but rather “Jack-a-Point Rd”. (really) I am standing on the Trail RoW. The trail is graveled, and that road is good ol’ PEI red earth.

Yes indeed very sad to look at an old station like that, but the good part about it is that it is still standing, amazing photo:)
