Comments on: It might have been a cold snowy day, but still good enough to go out and see what is happening on the railroads. Upon arriving at Fort Erie it was nice to see a pair of those old venerable N&W locomotives parked out front of the CN diesel shop. Grabbed a shot of them from the roadway, playing it safe in slippery conditions by not crossing the tracks. These F7A units, N&W 3660 and 3725 were both from the former Wabash stable at one time, and were a familiar sight around Fort Erie back in those days. Both were built circa 1950. Activity at the diesel shop ceased back around 1989 as CN closed down the shop and pulled up most of the track. Currently this old repair facility is home to a fledgling railroad museum.

Great pic and pleasant reminder of times gone by. I spent many weeks over the years working in and around CN’s Fort Erie yard. Never had the pleasure (or displeasure) of working there in the winter.

Great photo. I always enjoyed the growl of those units working up the grade from Nanticoke Creek into Jarvis followed by the start of whistling for the Hwy 6 crossing.

There is always something nostalgic, and those venerable old F units did it for me….especially the zebra striped CN ones. Nonetheless, a great nostalgic photo of a different era (and atea) that just isnt the same anymore.
