Comments on: It was a tad disappointing that due to sun angles and other such aggravations, shooting the Toronto portion of the old Canadian southbound at Parry Sound was a bit of a challenge. That is, if you were tired of seeing it rolling over the harbour trestle. Rather than being along the platform and shooting it head-on, I elected to go down on the street and try the scene from there. Not bad, but I could not avoid the sun reflection on the windshield. A bit of servicing and a lot of social chatter, and the train was soon off again. VIA 6306 and 6635 the power on a beautiful spring day. VIA 6306 was the former 6520; it ended up in tourist service in Quebec in 1994, went to Waterloo & St. Jacobs in 1997 as their 6508, and now in new spiffy paint working at the OSR !!! What a life. And what a gem.

Well, thank you, Sir!!! I believe the CP station is now a Gift Shop; maybe closed due to pandemic. The CN station was for lease (Sale?) as of last fall when we went thru the area. I did write a detailed report when posting a photo of the station not that long ago. But it is empty, looking for a tenant. Take care!!!AWM

Mr. Mooney, you did it again ! A very seldom photograph angle of the classical CPR Parry Sound railway station, complete with order board, baggage car activity and blue sky no less. Never mind the FP9-A windshield glare, at least it’s an FP9 and amazingly they are both in “active use”. Is this station still an art gallery ? And what has happened to the CNR station ? During the fall last year, the West Coast Railway Association repainted locomotive 6520 into the Canadian National Railway 1961 paint scheme. On the WCRA website, it says that the locomotive is currently operational and is one of their locomotives for special excursion trains.

Another good picture from Parry Sound Arnold. An interesting angle to be sure. To save you having to retype your caption:
VIA 6306 ended up sold to the West Coast Railway Association and was renumbered 6520. It was moved to BC in 2012. All courtesy Canadian Trackside Guide 2015. Is it still on the west coast? Will it be restored or is a parts source for other units in their collection?

Awesome shot despite the challenges of a late day sun. It looks like the train could crash off the end of the wall barrier there as it rounds the curve!
