Comments on: It was after the dinner hour and I had just finished wandering over as far as the CP bridge over the CN on the other side of Hwy 403 when this came around the bend, heading west. The old Hamilton West sign can be seen at extreme right, giving the location. CN 5618, NRE 892, LMS 735 and 717 are the locomotives pictured. I used to see only the odd NRE unit with the full name, National Railway Equipment, spelled out on the flanks, so this was a treat to finish off a day. The unit is no longer on their extensive roster. (In case someone wants to challenge the ‘safety’ of crossing over the 403 via the railway, it was a common practice back then by a number of us, but we crossed on the close by CP Hamilton sub bridge; as traffic was light and could be seen or heard from a long way off.) Trespassing days for me and most others are days long gone by.

The undersized CN on the nose of these units gives them a very distinctive look.
