Comments on: It’s not very often these days you get a mainline freight cooperating with the sun to allow for this shot. 143 is typically through under the cover of darkness, and 246 and 254 are backlit by the time they get here. A rather late and a rather interesting 143 provided the impetus for this shot to happen, and I had no issue making the trek to Welland to get out ahead of 143 in sufficient time for this. Pictured here, 143 has just emerged from under the Welland Canal, and is ducking under one of the redundant signal bridges scattered throughout the area (see another example at Feeder here. I know of several others who caught this train, including Matthew Tozier at Fort Erie, and I look forward to seeing their shots over time. Arnold Mooney posted a shot a few years ago from back in 1990 looking the other way from the canal, of a Norfolk Southern stack train headed for Dain City. In my shot you can see some of the changes he noted such as the removal of the middle track and the redundancy of the signal bridge. As Arnold notes, the NS train in his shot is running on the Cayuga Sub, which the racks in my shot are sitting on. This is now CP’s Brookfield Siding. Additional context and/or corrections on this are of course welcome.

A bit more context, I am told the siding name was changed from Brookfield to Rusholme so as to avoid confusion with Brookfield East.
