Comments on: It’s pretty rare for anything foreign coming up from Port Huron / Sarnia to get east of Mac Yard, beyond the exceptionally rare detour move, so the chance to shoot this train was a little too much to pass up. Bonus that I was already in Oshawa for business, and with a few text messages with some very timely information, I was able to bag this 710 crude train with very little loss of time indeed. It is worthy of note that the sight of a unit tank train on the Kingston Sub is rare, unlike CP’s Belleville Sub, where I shot a 608 less than 25 minutes earlier. CN 8825, IC 1022, and BNSF 4011 provide the impetus for the train. 1409hrs. BTW, take a close look at the rear of IC 1022… you can see the ‘C’ of the CN noodle that someone has applied to the rear. Every time you see IC font on a CN unit, think of IC 1022 and smile.

Crude Oil trains on the Kingston sub won’t be rare anymore. A refinary at St. Romuald PQ is getting about 4 trains a week since the start of November with more to come in the new year. Half are comming from Edmonton’s Walker Yard (with the traffic coming out of South Beamer AB on a local) as U70451-xx (empties return west as U70521-xx) and half from the BNSF at Joliet IL, like this one as U71091-xx returning empty as U71121-xx.
