Comments on: It’s taken a few years to finally get my grandson to get out of the vehicle to see a train because he loves the trains but is not very fond of the noise. Today, he brought his own camera and told me “I’m a big boy now and want to take my own pictures.” He usually wears his ear muffs so its not so noisy but said he didn’t need them at this spot because they don’t honk, so off we went to get a pumpkin. Here, BNSF 7107 running solo with 62 total axels, passes mile 43.3 headed east down the Galt sub. His picture actually turned out well for a first attempt at something moving but he was sure the next time he did need his earmuffs.

When I was a wee one it wasn't just the noise but the fear factor of such a big machine. But I loved it! Excellent for your Grandson. Maybe post his shot up here? :)

Thank you guys. He's not a fan of the noise and wears his hearing protection even when running my O scale model trains. He definitely wore them for the next train that went by an hour or so later.

I definitely reccomend hearing protection for young ones. Simple ear plugs you get in factories is fine.

When I was younger it bothered me a lot but now its not as bad.. but still sometimes want them

Which by the way is really just a symptom of hearing loss

That’s funny my oldest son was like that for a while trying to take photos while holding his ears. Then running around the corner of the station or in the car before the train passes. We found out he has sensitive hearing but these days it doesn’t bother him much as he’s always trackside.
