Comments on: Job 2 has arrived in town and their first order of busines is to turn the train. Rounding the wye at Sackville and Alice St in Guelph, OSR RS-18 182 is taking the south leg so they can work PDI elizabeth st and Lower Yard on the Guelph Junction Railway. I came upon this scene and framed the Northern Rubber factory (formerly Chemtura/Uniroyal, now turning into Condos) and the nearby oddball houses into the shot. I had never framed it in quite this way before.

I came across some info on Northern Rubber recently, as it operated as an independent entity of the F. E. Partridge Rubber Company. Begun by its namesake owner in Montreal, he relocated to Guelph almost immediately, leasing the building and equipment of Independent Rubber on Metcalfe Street (Huron) and Clarke (Ferguson) Street. I believe the site was the lot either just north or south of the GJR. Eventually he purchased Independent Rubber and another local company, Standard Rubber. F. E. Partridge made tire rubber, while his other independent operation, Northern Rubber (1919), made rubber for footwear.
