Comments on: Just by fluke I passed by Finnigan, an old name used by CN behind Babcock and Wilcox in Cambridge. The area has since been completely rebuilt with grade separation. Years ago CP would often have mainline trains head to this location to grab any traffic needed out of Toyota. I believe this is all done now at Wolverton. Thus day there was a nice mix on 234 including two leased units. While I got a few shots of them in town this was my FA just east if Killean. A short hike into the farmers field and a bit of a wait was worth it as the train rolled eastward for Toronto.

This was a nice spot. Quiet countryside back then and one could just sit in the grass and enjoy life. Now, I would imagine the ticks would be out to enjoy you.

It was nice when there was more activity in Galt and the old GRR yard but I can see why they had to expand Wolverton. Too much congestion in town.

Yes, Wolverton eliminated much of the mainline work at Finnegan and Galt for autos. Also eliminated the need for the Galt to Hagey turn and the Ham turn lifting the racks too.

However, there's still some mainline trains that go up the Waterloo, 244's can often be found going straight to Galt to set off on the Fergus for a Hagey yard job to grab. Guess it depends how hot the cars are.
