That dust is typical of the first few movements after ballast work, whether new ballast was applied, or &#039;old&#039; ballast rearranged. A few trains or a good rainstorm end that interesting visual effect. Back in the days of cabooses, there were situations like this where enough dust entered the &#039;van&#039; that it had to be wiped off working surfaces like the electric stove &amp; desk.</description>
