Comments on: M for Magnificent.

Trailing shot: exception requested. The Push: 4710 – 4727 – 4717 = M636 trio, make their first pass of the day shoving extra 4723 west ( with M630 #4550 ) up the hill through Campbellville to Guelph Junction. In about 40 minutes the trio will drift east downgrade through Milton to their train waiting on the westbound main near Hornby. In the meantime the lead unit on extra 4723 west is taking on water ( ! water tower dismantled ! ) at the Guelph Junction Station ( note to Chairman of the Board at your local railway: stations do have asset value especially when equipped with a $5.99 ( plus sales tax ) one hundred foot garden hose that can be purchased at your local Towers or Kmart department store ). Third shot in the sequence of four, near Canyon Road.

A few years before this shot was taken, a train stalled on the first significant grade on the Galt Sub, west of Streetsville. The following train nosed onto the van (caboose) of the stalled train which was situated about half a mile west of the station, & they whole mess started up. When the van of the first train was on the curve west of what is now Meadowvale GO station, the fist train went into emergency. The trailing train which did not have air cut in, kept shoving long enough to crush the van of the fist train. No injuries resulted, but a new rule was issued requiring assisting trains to uncouple their power from their train & cut the air into the train being assisted. Worth noting, stalling almost never occurred one welded rail was installed a year or two after this shot. I think this was due to better adhesion on CWR and better motive power as 1st generation power became less common.
