Comments on: Modern Canadian Passenger Equipment at Work
GOT 302 pulls up alongside VIA 2302 inside the Union Station train shed in Toronto, ON July 30, 2025.
These sleek new trains are quite the contrast to the 1950′s Budd built equipment on VIA Rail’s ‘The Canadian’ that is boarding passengers on the track next to them.

So that’s how you get up into the dome before departure - very clever Paul ! Don’t think I would qualify as a resource person with my walker. John

Hi John, I forgot to mention, that I was (as on most trips) the on-board resource person in my sleeping car, so I received my safety briefing, and went through the emergency evacuation/vestibule door procedures with the car attendant ahead of everyone else. I was then able to make my way to the Skyline Car before the rush and have the entire dome to myself for 20 minutes or so. :-)

Hi John. In all my trips on The Canadian since March 2018 retirement (17 to date), I have never measured the width of the aisles in the Manor sleeping cars. My next return trip is on November 28th, and I will be sure to get a measurement for you. I know it is a little snug but I have my fingers crossed for you that it will be sufficient to accommodate your walker. :-)

They let you in the dome before train departure ? Wonderful ! Love the contrast, but my choice is the “silver” train. With the “new” train platform glass roof”, sure allows enough light for picture taking. Thanks for sharing. Question for you Paul, what is the width (in inches) of the passageway in the sleeping cars ? Trying to determine if my walker will fit so that I can get to the diner ? Many thanks, John
