Comments on: My goal in the summer of ’18 was to capture GEXR in Daylight along the LRT route, but even when I missed daylight I was able to get some neat stuff and this is one of my favourite captures from that period. There’s no mistaking where this shot was taken, only weeks before this was the lighting made operable for the LRT giving me something to work with from the Northfield station platform.

You are a good Dad, Srephen. I also was always juggling time between family, work, cottage time and the railway photography hobby, which got the minimum in time. Yes, I agree, watching trains for me now and again, was and still is a great way to unwind, relax, and often when I did get to do it, my children were with me ! And yes, I stand guilty of taking them on train trips in order to get in some train riding. But today, all grown up and two with their own children, they tell me of the good times they had on these occasions. And good for you Stephen to do the swimming, skating and other activities with your family. It is a credit to you that you do all these activities not to mention work, and find a little time to do your wonderful and beautiful railway photography. Keep it up and I enthusiastically look forward to your future postings. Thank you !

Nothing John, at that time (and until COVID) we had skating or swimming with the kids 3 nights a week, and with 584 being a Mon-Thurs job I could try once/week if everything aligned. So if the sun was out, I would go over to Kitchener after supper and watch GO and VIA trains pass by while 584 worked the yard.

It was soothing, and relaxing, but once, they departed at 7:15 PM to go north.. after that chase, I realized two shots I had to get.. so I kept trying, and it hit in daylight one more time as they departed at 7:30 - but by then it was almost August and you lose 3 minutes of sunlight every day.. I managed to follow the train 3 times of my 6 or 7 attempts.

by August it was no longer possible.. but persistence paid off!
