Comments on: No score for this Puk A year after being delivered to The Keewatin Railway Company, KRC 2509 and 4 double deck coaches sit silently inside the fenced compound at the VIA Rail Maintenance Center 1.5 miles west of Union Station in Winnipeg, MB. With entry/exit doors 4 feet above top-of-rail, this newly refurbished equipment doesn’t quite fit in on KRC’s route from The Pas, MB to Pukatawagan as there are no elevated platforms on that line! I’m guessing the consist is in town to be modified for a more convenient ingress and egress method for passengers.

Imagine a flag stop “jump down, don’t get hurt” or using a ladder to get up and down.

I believe the KRC Pukatawagan Mixed makes several scheduled stops as well as ‘flag stops’ between The Pas and Pukatawagan.
I don’t see them building raised platforms at any of the remote locations to accommodate the hi-level doors on their new double decker passenger cars.

I can’t see this ever going in service, you have to build high level platforms everywhere.

Does the Puk train let people off and on at random locations like a flag stop train or is it more of a point to point run?

I’ll be heading back to Churchill again in late October this year and will be looking for this consist to be back in The Pas and hopefully in service.

I’d like to know who got away with making such a bone headed decision and how the first nation will be made whole.

At least the locomotive is a good acquisition, the coaches have to be made to match whatever HEP voltage they have though.

I’m shocked proper ground level door coaches weren’t acquired that can be used with a simple stepstool
