Comments on: Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.. as they say for Christmas Eve – this was no different. I ended up following this train to and from Elmira on Christmas Eve, after chasing 580 to Kitchener I found 584 working and they quickly went north, running early to get the crew home in time for Christmas. No creature was stirring – everyone was already sent home – not in any business, not at Chemtura, nothing. Zero. It was just me and the two crew of the railway. I took this photo from behind a business, and the name built into the smokestack is what intrigued me. “naugatuck” was the name of this factory as it was in 1941. GEXR with 3821 is reversing into the facility to perform work, which takes time in the tight confines of this plant. This place hasn’t changed all that much in the last 80 years it would seem. Note: 3821 is now GEXR 2073.

Well, the thing is trains run every day for the most part, and if not daily, on a schedule, so yeah, you surely can do research and plan to see operations in a certain area. That’s how this hobby is supposed to work

That’s what I do, If I hear something is happening somewhere my plan is to see what else I can do

Even though I haven’t seen CN move in Waterloo in daylight I’ve had enough parked trains to last a lifetime and covered enough locations it doesn’t matter anymore

Well,, remembering dates as to when certain events happened was just something I honestly more or less was just born to do, like for instance if parents even ask me when exactly I was in Boy Scouts or what year my sister was in Girl Guides, I can tell them the year in the blink of an eye, no need to check back at family photos or anything.
Just something I simply was born to do.

And in terms of seeing a outlawed train, well I definitely won’t be jumping in the car right after I hear the news, if I don’t got much else going on that day then I guess I can consider making the trip.
Will plan to see a couple other trains too tho somewhere else near that neck of the woods like on the Guelph Sub, won’t make the 2+hr round trip just to see one outlawed train, if I can fit a couple others in then I’ll be happy.

And that move were Orange G&W made it up was the exact same late 2016 move I specified in the previous comment. Probably the next daytime move some 11 months after this one here and last one anyone else was aware of in the GEXR days.

CN pics are pretty cool as well, I enjoy looking at em but don’t think it’s quite worth it for me to make the hr+ trip from Brampton just to shoot a dead, outlawed train.
Would prefer to bring the tripod at nighttime and practice them nighttime switching photos!
Some days learning to just ‘work with what you got’ isn’t all that hard after all.

Hard to say for sure. I know orange made it up there once and I was at my company xmas party with the kids.

I did night shots of orange up there so I dun care

Fact remains we have multiple shots of cn up there now since takrover and that trumps all

Year after this, probably only once that November and then that was the end of daytime switching in Elmira for GEXR..
