Comments on: Not a typical 584 today, no big string of Gov’t grain hoppers. That is the 9166 in behind with the louvers instead of grill work along the top edge. This day shaped up to be the best of the summer. At 8:00 the unit train headed out with the 9171, 9190 and 9167 for power. Now at 11:00, this is coming down the track (with blue sky all morning). It was a close call when I look back. I had already lived in Redwater for 4 years before taking up rail photography seriously. It was the winter of 84/85 that I decided to go out and “get a few photos” before that 1st generation power gets replaced. The summer of 85 was the last summer for plentiful F units. By 86, many of them had gone east. Whew, close call for sure.
