Comments on: Not many pictures exist of CN 3889. CN 3889 was the lead unit on an eastbound freight that was struck head on by a couple locomotives that were set in motion from the shop track at Foleyet, Ontario by individuals unknown on April 5th, 1964. The point of impact was at mile 3 of the Oba Sub. The remains of 3889 were sold to the Pacific Great Eastern Railway for parts. However, there does not appear to be many useful parts so I hope they didn’t pay too much!

From what I remember, they had a few seconds warning, so they plugged it, and jumped. They were roughed up pretty good, but survived.
The throttle of the 3889 was still in run 8 with the brake handle in emergency. I'm still looking for that photo.
