Comments on: October 22, 2008. The first “official” day of the official beginning of the end for the CN Kinghorn Subdivision. Mostly secluded north of Nipigon the line hosted two trains a day (M336/M337)until 2005 when the service was abolished. Ever since that day in 2005 the pair of rails and steel structure that supports them at mileage 173 sat dormant and rusting. Fast forward three and a half years later, the work train that has been ordered to remove the rail of the sub slowly creeps backwards across the decrepit structure. Destined for mileage 153 where the Thunder Bay crew will begin tearing up “the western portion” of the line. There will only be a handful of trains left to use the old bridge which has been standing since 1916…. On December 8, 2008 the last string of rail was loaded east of the bridge and the CN departed Pass Lake for the final time.
