Comments on: On a frigid Wednesday morning in March 1992, a business trip to Saskatoon gave me an opportunity to sample the photographic opportunities at the VIA station. I was able to take transit to a stop near the station on the outer reaches of the city from the warmth of my downtown hotel, formerly CN’s Bessborough, on the banks of the Saskatchewan River. At the time, VIA Train 1 was scheduled to arrive at 3.05 a.m. for a twenty minute stop. VIA FP40-2H 6455 (GMDL 1989) leads the Vancouver bound train. The cold was mind-numbing but fortunately, the air was quite still so I was able to get my time exposures and retreat to the hotel without lasting damage.

In my last job, about 1990 to 1993,I had to travel from Edmonton to Melville, Saskatchewan once a month for business. I used the train as fares were still reasonable. I used to feel sorry that Saskatoon got the crappy end of the stick on the schedule changes. Before that, it was a really busy stop.

A great capture Bill! You are to be commended for your perseverance. Saskatoon station in January 2018 was the coldest place we have ever been thus far on the planet when we stepped off No. 1 for a brief stop. - Ken
