Comments on: On a weekend summer day, a CP eastbound train is viewed lifting three boxcars from the CN interchange that connected to the CP St. Thomas Subdivision in Woodstock, Ontario. Previously, the power that included SD40-2 5664 and HLCX SD40 3087 had arrived from London, uncoupled from their train and went light down the St. Thomas Subdivision to the interchange. One would assume the three boxcars were fairly “hot” priority cars that couldn’t wait until Monday for one of the Woodstock jobs to lift. The tracks in the foreground are the CN Dundas Subdivision and today this location is known as Carew, however the interchange track between the two railways is long gone.

The rails were lifted when they had work on the culvert by the river.

Of course by then the switches were likely removed on the CN side as that’s what they were after – less switches less maintenance.

Thanks Steve. Yes, they seemed to just slowly stop being used then the rails were lifted.

No we didn’t get CN going by them, however we were hoping for it!
