Comments on: On an excursion to Owen Sound and return over Thanksgiving 1974, I noted in the morning as the locomotives Credit Valley #136 and 1057 (barely visible next to the CP diesel background) were getting their load of coal for the return trip, that everyone else was taking pictures of 136 so I decided to take pictures of everyone else. I’d like hopefully some of the crowd are on RP., but this photo is 40 years old this year. Purpose of this photo is to show that there was once a lot of railroad activity in Owen Sound; not only on CP, but also on CN right across the harbour. Sad to see the decline over the years. Chilly morning; not the frost on the rails. This turned out to be an eventful day. Poor quality coal wouldn’t burn. I did not get back home to St. Catharines until almost 0700 Monday; a full 22½ hours after leaving ‘The Sound’.

Yes....I was going to mention that. Ol' 136 was fresh off that mini-series that aired on CBC about 6 months prior to this little journey pictured. For the 'newbies', this was an 8 x 1 hr presentation on the building of Canada's transcontinental railroad based on a couple of books by the late Pierre Berton.
