Comments on: On the east coast of Vancouver Island at the BC Forest Products mills at Crofton, the primary railway connection to the mainland was provided by rail ferries, here showing as SEASPAN DORIS (formerly DORIS YORKE of F. M. YORKE and Sons) and about to be switched by Whitcomb number 9 of Stuart Channel Transportation shown lurking at the lower right on Friday 1975-05-09. CP’s E&N had a direct connection to Crofton, known to CP as Crofthill, from a junction at Osborn Bay, but in later years it was used only when various marine difficulties made the rail ferry option unavailable.

It’s still rail served and they have two locomotives on the property. Access is very difficult to achieve but there seems to be one vantage point available.

This is very cool! A little bit of internet map use reveals that this plant is still served by rail-barge today (or at least was quite recently), although the E&N connection is severed. I wonder what is doing the switching now – it would be great if someone could “time machine” this!
