Comments on: On The Humberstone – 1986. Looking north to the double track section of the CTC controlled Humberstone Sub. Up until the end of ’87 both CN and TH&B used the tracks here. It was not uncommon for TH&B’s trains leaving town to be stranded down at Nickel Yard until they got CTC clearance. All the CTC was gone here by 1988, and the double track section reduced to a single line. Today, the rarely used (but well maintained) line has been demoted to the Humberstone Spur, serving VALE, and the odd other technical move (JTL, Transformers, etc). The Humberstone dates from the late 1850′s as the southern portion of the WELLAND RAILWAY that joined Port Colborne (Lake Erie) and Port Dalhousie (Lake Ontario).

You would be correct Mr. thb401... loads of stone to the "Stone Dock" were a regular thing, I must of got this shot on an off day. R&R Trucking maintained their facility at the corner of Hwy 140 and 2nd Concession... they had a sister company in Markham ON (they ran Scrap into the GM Foundry on Glendale in the mid-80's)... don't know why R&R eventually moved their HQ to Hamilton and the company is still in business as RIMS - Transportcorp.com
Thanks for the throwback memories... MIKE

Lots of pride in ownership on that section of track! Ballast section nicely groomed to the toe line, brush cut well back along the right-of-way, and all the signal appliances looking in tip-top condition. Real nice photo!
