Comments on: Once upon a time the railroads could…and would…. deliver almost anything by train. A good example is Hamilton’s order of new Flyer buses; two on a flatcar waiting to be unloaded down at Stuart St yard quite a few years ago.

Thanks, MrDan. I had the old faded print, done in 1978; so had the neg put to CD to offer up to RP.ca and then promptly misplaced the print which had some information on the back. The only thing I knew for sure was the date of the photo. After a week, I said “heck with it” and posted it without information, thinking to myself that “If MrDan doesn’t offer up the intelligence for this photo, maybe someone else would.” And so it came to pass. Neat catch Arnold. Bus foamer intel sez they’re a pair of Hamilton Street Railway’s (then) new Flyer E800B trolleybuses, fleet number range of the order was 7801-7816 (numbers probably applied when delivered). Likely shipped all the way down from the Winnipeg plant.

That’s an interesting photo Mr. Mooney. I recall many moons ago seeing a HSR GMC “fish bowl” on a flat car in CP’s Aberdeen Yard. It wasn’t new, so it’s still a mystery why it was on the flat!

I imagine that the loads would not arrive with windshields and side windows intact today. They would be tempting targets to the “Malvern (whoevers)” . Once again an interesting angle from the Mooney Files.
