Comments on: One thing I really miss is the small-time transfers we used to see so many of around the Burlington-Hamilton area. The big freights with their repetitious ACs seem so impersonal.
Hamilton-bound down the grade toward Bayview, on approach to the old Snake Rd bridge is one of those little wayfreights; the once-common SW1200RS, this one #1388, followed by a rather rare (only 8 built) Sweep 7106 with 5 boxcars and a van in tow.
The “Sweep” is actually a thingumabob resulting from the mating of an SW1200 with a GP. The 8 in total were of GMD/CN remanufacture in 1985-87 and retired by 2000.

Interesting 1388 has the newest scheme but with spark arrestors suggesting before the rebuild program.

@stephen I believe this transfer was from Aldershot to Stuart yard just like the transfer from Aldershot to Oakville.

What was the idea behind the Sweeps? Was it salvage from wrecked 1200's and GP9's?

I love working the "sweeps". They were fun to operate. Great little pullers in the yard. A bit "slippery" on the main with a heavy train, but unique for sure
